Should you bring gifts to patients in the hospital? One of Mrs Happy's relatives recently got admitted to the hospital. My feeling is yes. You should consider bringing something nice for your hospitalized loved one. Sick patients are in a state of mind where any nice distraction can help their mental health. In our case, our relative likes her gardening. As you can see in the picture, Mrs Happy found a nice garden display hanging as seen in the picture.
As a hospitalist, I'm always seeing patient gifts scattered throughout their room. What are some of the more common distractions given to patients? Flowers, get well cards and balloons in many shapes, sizes and colors top the list of the most gifted items. I'll often see a candy dish filled with mints or chocolates and other assorted goodies. Sometimes I'll see books and magazines brought in to make the time fly. I've even seen family bring in a carton of cigarettes for their loved one about to undergo surgery.

If I ever get admitted to a hospital, I want Indian food brought to my room every night. I'm addicted to that stuff. What would you want gifted to you if you were stuck in the hospital as a patient? What gifts or helpful items have you brought for patients in your life? As a doctor or nurse, would you consider giving a gift to your patients?
